Six-week Introduction Course

New six-week courses will be published on this website prior to their commencement.

Zen Meditation & Practice

Each week will comprise the following teachings for approximately 30 minutes prior to 30 minutes of meditation practice. We will then complete the evening with questions and answers and light discussion for 30 minutes.


WEEK 1

  • The history of Zen – its teaching and practices (inlcuding a brief biography of Father AMA Samy SJ) – 30 minutes

  • The Art of just sitting (Shikantaza – posture, breath, body and thoughts awareness) – 30 muntes

  • Question, answers and light discussion – 30 minutes

WEEK 2

  • The two main schools of Zen (Soto and Rinzai) – their history and development – 30 minutes

  • The Art of just sitting (Shikantaza – posture, breath, body and thoughts awareness) – 30 muntes

  • Question, answers and light discussion – 30 minutes

WEEK 3

  • Zen and Christianity – 30 minutes

  • The Art of just sitting (Shikantaza – posture, breath, body and thoughts awareness) – 30 muntes

  • Question, answers and light discussion – 30 minutes

WEEK 4

  • An introduction to the Sutras and their meaning – 30 minutes

  • The Art of just sitting (Shikantaza – posture, breath, body and thoughts awareness) – 30 muntes

  • Question, answers and light discussion – 30 minutes

WEEK 5

  • Faith as the basic human quality, ‘a discussion on Father AMA Samy’s article’ – 30 minutes

  • The Art of just sitting (Shikantaza – posture, breath, body and thoughts awareness) – 30 muntes

  • Question, answers and light discussion – 30 minutes

WEEK 6

  • The better angle of our nature. ‘a discussion on Father AMA Samy’s article’ – 15 minutes

  • An introduction to the Ox herding Pictures of Zen – 15 minutes

  • The Art of just sitting (Shikantaza – posture, breath, body and thoughts awareness) – 30 muntes

  • Question, answers and light discussion – 30 minutes

Learn how to become more in touch with your feelings and emotions and how to allow these to simply ‘BE’. Being mindful is as simple as being present in the moment with yourself. It is a time to observe all around you without judgment or concern. Become more aware of your body, breath, posture and thoughts and observe those thoughts you become more attached to than others without judgment or criticism of yourself in a safe, calm space under Brendan's guidance.
